In addition, the better option is to keep the original post and add the answer to the end of it, so everyone stumbling over this thread probably having the same question finds an answer here.

Deleting threads (topics, really) is something that can only be done by moderators. It is only done when absolutely needed as a last resort, or to eradicate spam. Users cannot delete (or close) topics.

Please just leave the topic with the question. If you found a solution yourself, kindly reply to the topic with the solution, and mark the topic as [Solved] by modifying the title of the topic. You can do that by editing the first post in the topic. That will help others with the same issue in the future.
