QT and C++ with QT Creator - how?
-
I'm just a beginner. I look at the tutorials and examples, first, always.
here:
http://doc.qt.nokia.com/qtcreator-2.1/creator-writing-program.htmlyou are asked to:
Select File > New File or Project > Qt C++ Project > Qt Gui Application > ...
But there is no choice quite like that in the current version.
Other help/tutorials outside of Nokia ask for the same choices. No 'Qt C++ project' choice.
No 'Qt Gui Application' choice.
Choices avaliable don't seem appropriate. What do I do?
(And why, when I am in a forum and I do a search, am I jumped out of Forums to Developer Network? With the first answer pointing me to ask.com? Really?!)
(And, no, advanced search didn't help, either.) -
What have you installed? The Qt SDK or just a standalone Qt Creator? What version of Qt Creator? You could try the documentation for "Qt Creator 2.5":http://doc.qt.nokia.com/qtcreator-2.5/index.html if that is the version you have.
The search gives results from the entire Qt Project site, i.e. the Qt Developer Network, and you can restrict that further using the tabs at the top of the search results. The Google search seems to be limited to the Qt Project site so it does not seem possible that you would receive a link to an ask.com page. Are you sure you were using the site search box and not your browser's search box?
-
What exactly did you install? Which system are you using?
If there you can not create Qt projects then that can point to you not having any Qt version installed. Are there any listed in Tools->Options->Build & Run->Qt Versions?
And why on earth do you use outdated documentation (or are you really using Qt Creator 2.1?). The updated documentation for Qt Creator 2.5 is "here":http://doc.qt.nokia.com/qtcreator-2.5/creator-writing-program.html .

QT packages from Ubuntu
Creator is 2.4.1
Yes, SDK is there.
Build and Run == v 4.8.1I'm not a dummy, or new to complex IDEs or programming.
I simply chose an example and was looking for a way to do itMy current issue:
If you choose a topic from the 'Welcome' screen, you can't work it and then scroll that side screen: any dialog box blocks access to that side screen.
No different from any other programming tool I've met in the last 30 years, I guess.
Never tested on newbs, only tested on people that already know the answer.
I respect that many of you have put in a great deal of time and effort learning how to make things happen. I've done it many times. But touting something as being very easy to use might be true ... only after feeling the pain of overcoming all the assumptions made by those that are calling something easy.
Kinda like ... if you have to ask, you don't belong here.
Nothing but built-in frustration.
If I see don't an attempt at an answer instead of people just wanting to see their name in a post, I guess I'll close this up.

AFAICT, you received two perfectly valid replies asking for information you did not volunteer in your initial post. I'm sorry that you feel that answering simple questions to address your problem is beneath your dignity.
You quoted a Qt Creator manual for V2.1 but claimed to be using an unspecified "current" version that might have been 2.4 or 2.5 depending on exactly what you installed and when. It's not unreasonable to expect a difference between 2.1 and 2.4 or 2.5, just a Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and 2010 are different. That's why both replies directed you to the current version manual. However, now we know you are using 2.4.1 you should use "this manual":http://doc.qt.nokia.com/qtcreator-2.4/index.html
You observation about the Qt Project web site search is just mistaken as far as I can see, but feel free to post query term results in a link the ask.com.
Your new observation:
bq. If you choose a topic from the ‘Welcome’ screen, you can’t work it and then scroll that side screen: any dialog box blocks access to that side screen.
If you mean that a modal dialog removes your ability to interact with the underlying application then yes, it is like every other GUI you've used in 20 years. You can read exactly the same manual in a web browser (or Qt Assistant) in order to read the documentation concurrently with operating Qt Creator modal dialogs.
