Qt Maintenance Tool falsely reports having "commercial Qt Licenses"
-
Hi all,
The problem started a few days ago, whenever I run the Qt Maintenance Tool and try to log in, I get a message saying:
Your company has commercial Qt Licenses. Please contact Ian King at Ian.king@qt.io to see if you are eligible to download Qt Open Source.
I am not a company, I have the "individual" checkbox checked in my account, and I have no "commercial Qt Licenses", I just use the open source version.
It only allowed me to go through once in the past days after repeatedly clicking "
Next
", but now I'm stuck on that login page.I tried to debug Qt Creator, but no output, and I cleared the cache.
I have no clue what else to try other than reinstalling all Qt, which would be very inconvenient.I did uninstall Qt, downloaded the online installer...and...same problem, I am Qtless now, thanks.
I also tried entering a false password, and it did check that it is the wrong one.
Should I report this?
And, in case it helps, Qt Maintenance Tool version is: 4.8.0.0
Thank you.

It might be that this is automatically detected through your e-mail domain. Maybe Proton purchased a Qt license and QtC does not know that this is an e-mail provider. You might still want to contact Qt, at least to save future users with this e-mail provider the hassle (if I'm correct about this).

Can you check your license file?
It’s here on windows: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Qt\qtlicenses
If it’s related to your email, I think it’s a bug and you can report it.
Thanks! -
@SimonSchroeder That makes sense to me, it could be.
I did contact that email, but have not received a response yet. Thanks for sharing the idea!
@Axel-Spoerl First, I removed my Proton email account installation and made another one, using a Gmail address, as I mentioned.
I checked if that file exists, and it doesn't, and I thought I might need to re-remove Qt, and try using my Proton account again.
I tried, and surprisingly, it now works just fine, I was able to log in without that message popping up.
That license file still does not exist:
I don't know what happened, and I'm afraid whatever caused it might've disappeared due to me reinstalling Qt using a different account. If it was a bug, I'm afraid I no longer can help detect it, sorry.
But if there's another information I could provide, please ask, I'd be glad to help.
Thank you!

@Abderrahmene_Rayene
I have followed that up internally.
This problem should not have been reported on the public forum.
It was neither a bug, nor a mishap on our side.
Proton has got all information about the case at hand. -
I don't understand how Proton caused Qt (Maintenance Tool/Online Installer) to falsely report the existence of a commercial license. The error does not indicate that, and I was able to access my account through qt.io, hence why I sought help here, as I had no other options.
I don't need to know anyway, since I have no problem with my account now.
Thanks for the follow-up!

@Abderrahmene_Rayene
Why do you have a Proton email address? -
I use ProtonMail as a regular user to help me organize which type of email to receive where, and because of its focus on privacy and security.
I'm not sure how this is relevant to the issue, though.

So Proton is an email provider?

@Axel-Spoerl hi, yes. You can find them at https://proton.me
