you can use removeTab() and then addTab() again to show it.

Apart from removing tabs, there currently is no function to hide a tab. A patch against Qt 5 to add this functionality was recently "welcomed":http://lists.qt-project.org/pipermail/development/2012-March/002828.html but it will only appear in Qt 5.1.
