Network error while downloading Qt binaries online
-
Attempting to run online installer for Qt5 binaries for Windows 7. Repeatedly fails with "Network error while downloading 'https://qt.mirror.constant.com/online/qtsdkrepository/windows_x86/android/qt6_624_arm64_v8z/2022/03-14-1142_meta.7z': SSL handshake failed. This happens at 44% or before during 30-40 attempts. It used to be possible to specify another mirror, but no longer. Given this persistent failure, how can I get the Qt5 binaries for Windows-64bit? Qt claims they are available, yet this tool doesn't work.

Is Windows 7 still supported by Qt? I'm not sure, probably not for development.
In any case, you should be able to get Qt from archive https://download.qt.io/archive/qt/6.2/6.2.4/ although that will require some custom compiling. Probably a good idea on Win7.

@sierdzio Thanks for your response. The Qt web site https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/windows.html states that Qt5.15 is still supported on Windows 7. It appears to me that the online download for Qt binaries has been reported failing with network errors fairly often now, and I don't see any evidence that Qt knows this or cares to address the issue. That raises the further question in my mind whether Qt any longer cares whether developers like myself can obtain Qt binaries. That question in turn raises the final question whether the Qt Company is dying. Thanks again for your response.

It depends a lot on the mirrors' quality.

@JKSH Excellent helpful response! I used a mirror in the Netherlands and it worked flawlessly! The only puzzler is how to get Qt 5.15 instead of Qt 6.x. Thanks again!

The online installer should also provide Qt 5.15.2 - it doesn't in your case?

@jsulm My bad. I didn't see Qt 5 in the outer list of choices, but have since found qt5.15.2 inside the
"customize" option. Thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction. Currently the Netherlands servers are unresponsive, but found one in Germany that works. -
Here it's a link on how to get QT 6.4.2 working on Windows 7 if you are interested:
https://forum.qt.io/topic/133002/qt-creator-6-0-1-and-qt-6-2-2-running-on-windows-7/45A lot of people in the world is still using Win7 and programmed-obsolescence-time policy created by M*soft and blindly followed by so many companies (Qt included?) is... (omitted for respect to readers). ;-)
The above thread was read > 9.000 times... Hello?
I also have issues installing the binaries version, the installer stopped working after the download (lot of stuff) and it refuse to continue its work afterwards, it was decompressing the archives. I was unable to find where the already downloaded archives were stored and unfortunately nobody asked my simple question: what the hell can I do now?
I suggest you to find the archive's folder while the installer is running and do a complete backup of it when it's time.
Please excuse-me for the moaning and good work.
