how to reuse project in subdirs scheme ?

My main application is build on MDI example project .
I like to use same MDI example as a subproject.
I though I can just change .pro file , however it looks as I need also rename the class and associated includes etc.
If I load JUST the project I want to edit, how safe is the QT as far as "search and rename " ?
I mean search .pro and both cpp and h file and rename few things...
I have no issue backing things up as necessary...
