Commercial License Eval., unable to see 5.15.8
-
We've been using QT Open Source for long years.
Recently however we've stumbled across serious bugs which literally prevent us from having our app deployed and up and running successfully using the latest version available from the 5.15.2 branch.
It's a real bummer that QT Company withholds bug and security fixes (not talking about new features). Still, we do not want to be getting into that over here.
We're unable to get access to 5.15.8 from within of a Commercial Evaluation license using the Online Installer.
We would like to see if these bugs have been fixed within the most recent commercial license (5.15.8) however we can not see it available for pick-up.
Time is of the essence to us as, we tried calling Qt on their main support number https://www.qt.io/contact-us +358 9 8861 8040 but it leads to a Lady in Finland who doesn't seem to be aware of anything and best she could do was to transfer the call to another lady supposedly in US who was on vacations.
Bug Report:
https://bugreports.qt.io/projects/QTBUG/issues/QTBUG-101080?filter=allopenissuesIs there any way to get a test-drive of 15.5.8 ? it all seems quite ridiculous, does it not? We can't even compile it on our own as seems like Qt did all it could to hide it away.

Please use Qt Support for this, through the Qt Account. They should be able to help you.

upvote... don't know about Qt but we do respect our users who are waiting for us to fix a bug which renders our app entirely unusable on Android >=11.
You've stopped supporting Open Source, thus, since we've already got addictedto your tech strong enough, we ask whom to pay and whether we can get an eval of 5.15.8... which we presumably need to get/buy ANYWAY as recent COMMERCIAL updates state that since 15.15.2 .. there have been HUNDREDS of bug fixes including SECURITY fixes.. which we the open source community are effectively cut out from.
For many Open Source projects, including ours, security is CRITICAL.
Thus any project caring about security NEEDS TO buy a commercial license, indeed.
We are NOT interested in being test-rabbits for Qt'6 build system which is broken as f***.
AS it seems Qt did all it could to even hide its source code away from the praying eyes of the open source community.
thus yet again, whom to pay or where to get an eval ASAP.
-
What makes you think Security Fixes for 5.15 are not made available?
Case in point: https://www.qt.io/blog/security-advisory-qprocess , patches are made available to everyone.

@Vega4 You can use https://invent.kde.org/qt/qt/qt5 to get at least the important updates for Qt5.15 without the need to search them all over the place and add them manually by yourself. TQtC decided to ignore open source users, I doubt this was a good decision - maybe the support from open source users wrt e.g. patches or bug reports wasn't that much that it looked valuable for TQtC. But now I've at least more time for other stuff - more or less stopped contribution to Qt since this decision.

Just received a phone call from Qt asking how the eval of our QT commercial license was going... ;]
So relieved someone at least contacted us.. seeing the Support Ticket remains unanswered for the past 48+ hours already.
The guy said that our eval included only Qt 6 (lol)..and that he would contact technical guys to see if they could make Qt 5 available for eval.. well.. let us see how it goes.
It sort of shows how Qt feels about Qt6 doesn't it.

Still no constructive response from Qt Sales on how to proceed with either evaluating (preferred) or acquiring a single Commercial License so that we could evaluate 5.15.8
We're not being picky or some lame programmers. We've got top scientists in the field of cryptography and ex-Googlers aboard.
When we say 15.5.2 blows in the face when compiled against Android API 30 and that when compiled against 29 it does not.. then there's SOME chance it just MIGHT be true.
We've went to great lengths to reproduce the situation, however it is NOT a trivial task as when compiled against aaarch64 we are seeing some memory corruptions, which just COULD stem from multitude of errors we're seeing (QT's errors) when compiled against API 30 (including missing SO shared libraries QT attempts to access).
All is fine when compiled against API 29. All is fine on iOS the app is both app-stores. And we all know passing Apple's tests is not at least THAT straightforward. Qt 15.5.2 compiled against API 30 on Android? memory corruptions all over the place. It blows almost instantly. Same source.
It would be blessing for us to be able to test things through against 5.15.8 (either by evaluating or paying). It's a very concrete build-screnario we're having troubles with (QT 5.15.2 against Android 11 when linked against API 30 ONLY). which as you presumably agree suggests there indeed just MIGHT be a problem at the Qt's end.
We use lots of custom advanced stuff within the app, neural networks, computer vision processing, custom networking, (custom language in-the app compiler, decompiler), custom audio processing (coz we've found QT's Multimedia simply wouldn't work ) , task schedulers, and so and so.. no lame dudes being picky here that's what I'm trying to say.
I doubt there would ever be an incentive for QT' devs to research this through on 15.5.2 (only open source fellas keep using), there is also non incentive for me (the project manager) to spend work hours of my employees to keep researching things through for days If I can simply either acquire or preferably evaluate a single commercial license.
Thought evaluating 5.15.8 could be taken for granted (wrong) thought buying a single license would take minutes or hours at most (wrong again).
The app is GRIDNET Token on both app-stores.
Besides having such problems of big-magnitude; we're also seeing GPU rendering quirks (we use shaders) on any device we try (yet again same scenario) .. we really do not have time to keep researching this if we know there's a version with hundreds of bug and security fixes as you so boldly state in the description of consecutive releases.
Today, there's no other choice for open source devs who care about user experience and security other than buying into a commercial license of Qt 5.
Is 15.15.2 an LTS version which is supposed to receive constant updates? That's the point of LTS. Did it receive any?

What do you see when you select Product="Qt" and Version="5.15.8"?
We've went to great lengths to reproduce the situation, however it is NOT a trivial task
Is the reproduction something you're able to share (say, a stripped down version of you code)? Perhaps others can help pinpoint the issue. I haven't built any complex projects for Android yet, but my simple toy apps for API 30 runs fine.

Qt 5.15 is a commercial LTS version. I won't comment on the wisdom of making it commercial-only. But to answer your question, Qt 5.15.2 is an older update to Qt 5.15 while Qt 5.15.8 is the latest update to Qt 5.15.
