In Qt creator the Design cannot be selected . I am a newbie, please help.

Did you create a new widget based on Designer ?
In your Project view, open Forms and double-click the .ui file (dialog.ui, widget.ui, or mainwindow.ui). That will open your form in Designer. Once in Design mode, you'll see the Design icon in the left column is selected.
