QMessageBox freezes gui

qmessagebox pyqt python freeze crash
When I call a QMessageBox from my gui (using RQT with ROS), the entire window freezes. This code has never done this for years until the last couple weeks. Was there a recent update that might have to do with this?
I haven't been able to reproduce the issue consistently. When I get some error messages, I'll post them here.
