You should provide more information first. Where exactly do you type? In a Qt application? If so - widget or QML app? What keyboard: physical one or virtual keyboard? On what device (PC?, phone? ...?)? What Qt version? What OS?

Buy a German keyboard, which has the O-umlaut key where your semi-colon key is. Then you won't be confused.[Sorry, couldn't help myself. This is not a serious reply ;-) ]
(Seriously, however, this presumably indicates something in your set up is treating the keyboard as German when in fact it is not.)
