How to download large files in User Data storage from application on N950

Hi all,
My application downloads large files from the internet on the directory "/home/user/". To my surprise during testing after downloading several large files the phone presented a warning saying Low storage. I went into Settings->Device->Data Storage and
it reports that "Application data" is full (2.1 GB out of 2.1 GB) but "User data" is almost empty (it reports 133.4 MB out of 9.5 GB).
So it looks that even though the downloaded files do not reside under the application installation folder (/opt/MyApp/) but in /home/user the phone marks these files as "Application data". How can I mark them as "User data"?Thanks & regards,
