MacOS: Changing icon according to Light/Dark theme

My application have a monochrome system tray icon. It looks good when the MacOS system is set to use dark theme but it becomes invisible if the top bar is light coloured. How can I check if mac light theme is active?
PS: I don't want to put a different colour background to my icon because the systray design guides dictates it should be monochrome.
