[Suggestion] New ranking for devnet - 'n' levels
-
To make this clear: I'm not interested in technical details to maximize my points income. I'm interested in conceptual background:
- pseudo-logarithmic nature of the point-to-rank relation
- ideas behind user rights
- reasons behind point amounts to several actions
- and so on...
That would, in the end, be a larger discussion on how expert social networks work and come to be. Not that Alexandra and I are very good at it, but we had a set of theories and after much thinking and debate we thought we had something. And we are brave/naive enough to give it a shot!
It's a great topic for a devdays get-together that includes a nice meal and something to drink. Up for it?

Okay, back to business here. ;)
As Marius stated, we had long debates and quite some back an forth on the topic before we launched. I spent weeks on reading, thinking, researching on other networks, mind-mapping and more reading. The starting point was finding a solution for motivating users and rewarding activity on the site.
Now, that I think about it. Wouldn't all of this make a good blog posting rather than a forum entry?
Oh, and regarding further ranks: I'll think about it. :)

Not interested! It should be have more interesting privileges instead.

LMAO :-)

That's why I requested a new meta group: I think a nice meal and something to drink would help a lot but it's not mandatory ;)
It's nice to know that you have surprises for us. But:
Why do you worry about surprises from our side? -

I see. I saw your request and I was wondering about the intentions. Makes more sense now.
I am notoriously unworried...
Good to know this! I was only guessing when I read from Marius "top secret project that I’m not at liberty to divulge" ...I like surprises, but also to prepare some. (No, I have no special surprise pending right now.)
-
Ah. I see.
Sometimes things are not ready to be presented, mostly because we still need to figure out if and how they would work. And then there is cooperation with other teams or even external parties. We don't want to blow their cover before they feel comfortable. That's it.
We're not so much into the top-secret stuff here...
-
Alexandra, I understand that it can be complicated to decide what should be discussed in public (and: when). To be honest, I like reworking ideas in team work much more then making surprises.
I think the stuff in
*"Behind the Scenes":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewcategory/1/
*in particular "Beta Testing":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewforum/5/
*and also "Wiki Discussion":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewforum/16/could be completed with a group and an own wiki. Thats my dream, not more :)

I heard you. ;)

Alexandra, many thanks! :)
It's "devnet meta":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/groups/devnet_meta
If you are interested in the DevNet (development) itself, then you are very welcome to join this group. -
there is also an "Invitation Thread":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/3021/
