[Suggestion] New ranking for devnet - 'n' levels
-
I think that "The Chosen One" is good for new top rank ;) maybe this rank will be reserved to person who has the biggest ranking on forum, only one person can be "The Chosen One" :)
It is just my crazy idea :) -

Nice! :)
-
If you're talking about the top Rank, I'd say there is only one option: Thor. :-) Who else can be the most awesome being in the world of the Trolls?

Yeah, Andre has a point there! ;)
-
Question is: who will be awesome enough to take up The Hammer?
-
Thor? Hammer? ??
The top rank was not in question. It's an open ended scale.
Only the next rank is missing. -
Several suggestions for next levels have been given for that already in this thread.
BlackDante above suggested that perhaps The Chosen One should refer to the one person with the highest possible rank and the highest number of points. I merely remarked that that should probably be Thor (and his badge would then be a hammer, obviously).
-
And is it that bad to be a little bit open minded for new ideas ;) The chosen, after all, is important person, so why not for a forum too?
-
I'm sorry that my posting sounded so unfriendly :) that wasn't intended.
But I'm really curious about the next rank's name.
-
You won't know untill it is there, I guess. I am not sure the Trolls are going to create new ranks that are just a name, and nothing more. If there is nothing to attach to it in terms of rights, goodies, or something else, then why bother?
-
You are right. I think it's time to start a wiki page about points, ranks and rights to constructively address the current "Points & Ranks":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/ranks situation.
I'd suggest [[PointsRanksAndRights]]

I agree to this.
Also everyone might be aware that this ranks and points are valid only for 12 months (previously it was six months). So one need to continuously keep himself active in QDN.
And I feel that its not that easy to get around 10000 points. Most of the current jump in ranks have been due to the doubling of points and Project Elf.

What would be on that page, other than the info you already linked to? -
On this page we could collect our good ideas. The lesser good ones could be removed lateron. It would be a collaboratively usable notepad corresponding to this discussion.
Maybe we should have a meta wiki for this - maybe in a "meta group":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/groups/category/meta_groups
-
I don't really see the added value above this discussion and the comments in the Jira issue, to be honest. In my opinion there isn't much of a "Points & Ranks situation" at all. It is clearly explained what the current situation is, even if that is under debate at some points. A wiki page is not a good place for debates however, forum topics such as this one work much better. This topic has already been linked from the Jira tracker, so I'm pretty sure ideas mentioned here do not get lost.
But hey, who am I to stop you from creating the page you are proposing?
-
I have no technical problems creating such a page. But the wiki isn't used for meta stuff so far. I requested a meta group (next step: a group wiki).
Both, forum and bug tracker are good for discussions, not for prototyping. I don't want to post ideas here that cannot be easily improved be me and others.

There is a JIRA issue for new rank suggestions already: http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTWEBSITE-133

First I'd like to understand what is understood as the current situation. In short we have the rating system based on activity that leads to ranks, and we are planning to focus more on reputation (or quality if you like) with "thank this user" and QA forum features. And probably something for the wiki as well. Aaand a top secret project I'm not at liberty to divulge just yet :)
So before we talk about prototyping and how to do it the question is; what would we be working on?

Beyond the user's point of view. The description behind the "[what's this?]":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/ranks link is really good. (For the first.) You know that still a lot of questions have been raised.I just want to get a bit more information about the system (call it: to look behind the scenes).

Please do the quality-reputation system (or whatever you want its name to be ;), it affects to about anything here anyway.
But who says that ranks can’t be preserved? Maybe adding more of them if people wants to describe people better, and not just their button press count. Names are fun and gives unique feeling, after all. Everyone knows Ubuntu’s releases.

I've added an epic issue to JIRA for the quality-reputation system, with some of the ideas we have been playing with so far.
