[Suggestion] Category/"Articles Page": filter by language and group translations by title.

It seems to be worst than I thought.
For example, the Category:QtDevelopment is completely independent of the Category:QtDevelopment_Portuguese. Am I misunderstanding this?
It seems that right now they are completely unrelated parallel web sites under the same roof and not different "versions" of the same documents.
Language is distinguished in the wiki only with a special tag (langugage:XX) at the moment. There is no means for the search or tag engine to detect that some content is not in English (or any other language). In other words: in matters of searching, there is only one single language.
Where is this tag? The only think I see is that it seems to be a convention that the translations add "_language" to the original (or english version?) wiki document.

All pages in the wiki are virtually siblings. Categories are only a means to group pages of similar background together. A page can "belong" to more than one category.
Also, a translation of a page to a different language is by no means "bound" to the original page or something like that. It's up to the authors to provide links to the respective translations.
Yes, all this is kind of a mess and discussions on how to improve this are going on for a long time. Eventually the system will be improved. On the other hand, that's why DevNet is still tagged "beta". We all can help making this a really great site!

Not all pages follow this convention. The tags a page has are shown on top of the right column.

The tag in this case, even if it was on every page in a consistent form, would not help much. The problem is that the system does not know that a translation of a document is actually related to the original. Because of the naming convention (adding the _language) I think we may have a "quick and dirty" fix but I am afraid that we need a much bigger intervention to fix/improve how the web site deals with translations/languages - not just in the wiki but also in the forums.
It was my first incursion to the wiki and I was a little surprised to see that clicking on a category brings articles on every language without much of a distinction (or filter). They are not even grouped.
I would expect to have a way to filter them by language and also would like to see one line for each article with different links for the translations.
We also would need a way to add to the Category link the "desired" language so, for example, when clicking on the Examples Category on the Portuguese page you would get by default Examples Articles only in Portuguese. You could always see the articles on other languages by changing the filter on the top of the page.
I agree with you at the moment it looks unorganized rather I should say messy. at least we must have language filter .

Hi,
I thought about making sub categories for the languages, for example:
Category HowTo contains english articles,, then we coudl have HowTo:German, HowTo:Spanish, ... which contains the special languages. This would clean up the overview pages, until we get another sollutiopn like the language bar.

That is already what we have for some categories but I think will make the problem worst and not better. We will end up completely loosing "sync" between the translations.
I don't think we want to have completely separate/independent contents for each language. For instance we have already a howto category in Portuguese that shows just few documents that have been translated to Portuguese (and not any of the others that haven't). It makes very difficult to find out which ones have already been or should be translated. Also a new user may not realize that there are many more interesting articles that haven't been translated yet - any developer will, at least, have a rudimentary understanding of English.
On the other hand, right now, if we have all mixed on the same category we get one entry for each translation.

I just notice that on the "add-ons":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/wiki/Category:Add-ons category we have the ""Hungarian":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/wiki/Add-ons_Hungarian" translation of the page as an article in the add-ons category.
Do we support sub categories? May be there is something we can't do there to organize the translated articles until a better solution is implemented.
