Tag spam? Content tagged with very similar words
-
We have an "epic" (collection of related issues in JIRA) for the next iteration of the Tag system, feel free to add suggestions and comments.
-
Probably the situation will change once the new features to the tag system come to the site, but for now, please, don't add tags that don't add value. :)
I think it is unavoidable to have the wrong tags until the new features are implemented. It is currently too hard to know what other tags are in order to pick the right ones without accidental synonyms.
-
Also, we have a "bad tag" list where we can add tags that we keep removing. Just suggest in this thread and I'll add the ones we all agree on.
-Sounds like a good idea. How will we find that thread? (Or find it again after we forget where it is?)-
Sorry, I misread. I skipped the "this" thread.
-
Well, to me, suggestion and feature request can be different. A feature request in the devnet, certainly needs some code to be developed, while a suggestion might just be to open a new forum (like the new Qt ambassadors forum), or to change some text in the frontend. A suggestion might be done by an admin, a feature request only by a dev.
One person's synonym is another person's distinction. I think slight variations should be allow, within reason. The tags are for helping people find related information right? If the tags are too strict, it might limit that use.
-
I'll merge the most obvious ones for devnet and creator with the admin tool, no need to that manually folks.
Let me know if you see other candidates.
Is this someplace that the Mad Scientists can help support the QtDevNet? Or would that be opening things up too much?
-
Meh, it happened again. The wiki frontpage was tagged with weird stuff (mysql??). :-(
Sounds like some people might want to read their name on Monday.
-
I'm sure the moderators will clean it up and sort it all out.

This is usually someone who wants to search the wiki, not add a tag. We have a little usability challenge there.

I think some noise in the tags is much better than a tiring long list of tagging rules.
And maybe some newcomer has a knack with finding good new tags. -

Right now, if someone searches about qt simulator using the tag, but a page/thread is only tagged with simulator (or the other way around), it won't be found.
I was thinking about this, and about adding a page to the wiki so we could talk about it, but it probably isn't needed till the updates to the tag system arrive.

For the "bad tag" list: binding vs bindings
I was thinking about this, and about adding a page to the wiki so we could talk about it, but it probably isn't needed till the updates to the tag system arrive.
I think we can accumulate even these thoughts on the wikipage "[[Tagging]]":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/wiki/Tagging in a new section. I left a few notes there. (I'd suggest a new tag "tagging guide")
-
...and removed "tagging rules" because it does not sound so friendly :)
-
These tagging issues will be in control to certain extent once project elf is over.
-
Should we allow multiple letter tags - Say if there is a tag like "project elf" then do we require separate tags like "project" and "elf".
-
Not a tivial problem in my opinion:
these combinations seem reasonable
- "project elf, project"
- "project, elf"
whereas this I would reject
"project elf, project, elf"
since "elf" and "project elf" are synonymous.A set of rules on this subject but should work pretty disgusting.
All in all, I would trust the users a certain reason. -
QtK, it differs. In case of Project Elf of course not (simply because elf is more common for linux binary format than for this event). But sometimes it makes sense (of course, not all words should be in separated tags).

I have added a section on "sub_tagging" to the wiki page, please review. thx :)
