Qt on Android - how far along are things?
-
Anyone any idea on the current status of http://qt-project.org/wiki/Android and a rough idea of when an application needing things like email/messaging/Qt Mobility/Qt Multimedia would be possible? Anywhere to get a good status fix/idea of current progress?
Thanks in advance.

Check the official site of the project for porting Qt to Android which is called "Necessitas":http://necessitas.kde.org/
Details about Qt4 mobility on Android are available "here":http://necessitas.kde.org/necessitas/qt4_mobility.php.
bq. QtMobility on Android is far for being completely ported, but already gives you the opportunity to support many areas like Location (GPS) and more.
Couple of months ago Digia announced that we should expected "Necessitas Android port to be contributed to the Qt Project later this year":http://blog.qt.digia.com/blog/2012/11/08/necessitas-android-port-contributed-to-the-qt-project/.

Yeah, I spoke to the Necessitas guys and they are waiting on Digia for more resources. Just wondered where I might get more up to date info from Digia.

There should be an Android and iOS release candidate for 5.1 and a commercial grade release for 5.2, which will be spring and autumn.

Thank you :-)

WOW, that's what I call "putting it generously" - many areas and more while the only mentioned feature is GPS, it certainly creates an unrealistic perspective on the stage of development, especially considering that the most important in the area subset - multimedia - is pretty much absent.
Anyway, I do hope Bogdan gets more help/resources ASAP, since a complete support for Android is not only something I myself have been longing for quite a while, but a tremendous benefit to Qt in general.
5.1 surely promises a lot, for me personally way more than Qt5 brought compared to Qt4, so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a complete and on-scheduler release.

I don't know much about the official development status, but rest assured that there is a team being paid full-time to develop the Android port: http://lists.qt-project.org/pipermail/development/2013-January/009130.html

I envision that Qt's QML/JavaScript will be similar to PhoneGap's HTML/JavaScript for writing cross-platform mobile apps, except that QML is so much better and you can also incorporate C++ functions and custom elements easily.

Thanks for your feedback guys.

Hi,
It's 2014 now and this is a old thread, but trying to use QGeoPositionInfoSource on my Galaxy Note 2 replies the following and i think GPS isn't working yet.. or am i wrong ?
D/Qt ( 5617): appmodel.cpp:77 (void AppModel::networkSessionOpened()): QGeoPositionInfoSource Available Sources: ()
D/Qt ( 5617): appmodel.cpp:78 (void AppModel::networkSessionOpened()): QGeoSatelliteInfoSource Available Sources: ()You can see available sources are not listed.. ?

Sorry please ignore my last post there is already a topic about this "here":http://qt-project.org/forums/viewthread/35845

Hi,
GPS support for Android is scheduled for Qt 5.3: http://qt-project.org/wiki/New-Features-in-Qt-5.3
