Only PNG format is supported, and no other restrictions.

It seems a problem in Qt to me. AFAIK, we use the Qt (WebKit) to render directly.
Anyway, I'll ask around our developers.

You can create W3C widgets (http://www.w3.org/2008/webapps/wiki/WidgetSpecs), and access native resources e.g. sensor, file systems with Device APIs.
Another way to embed arbitrary QWidgets into web content (although this is Qt Webkit, not Qt Web Runtime) is reimplementing "QWebPage::createPlugin":http://doc.qt.nokia.com/4.7-snapshot/qwebpage.html#createPlugin to turn certain object elements into arbitrary QWidgets when the web page is loaded.
